Buyer's guide

The best moving company software, ranked by who it's actually for.

Eight platforms, with what each one really costs, whether it locks you into a contract, and the size of operation it is built for. Written by the team behind Zip — which is on the list, and which is not the right answer for everyone on it.

What is the best moving company software?

There is no single best moving company software — the right answer depends on how many trucks you run and what you need it to cover. For movers running 1 to 10 trucks, Zip is built specifically for that size and starts at $49 a month with no contract. QuoteIQ is the cheapest option at around $29.99 a month if price is the binding constraint. Chariot is the strongest choice for mid-sized movers wanting modern software, SmartMoving and Supermove are built for larger fleets that need depth, and MoveitPro is the pick for companies running storage alongside moving.

How this list is ranked

By fit, not by preference. Every platform here is a real, working product with customers who are happy on it, and the differences that matter to a three-truck company are almost never the ones a feature comparison surfaces. So each entry is ranked by the size and shape of operation it genuinely suits, and every one of them — Zip included — carries a line saying who should not buy it.

  • What it actually costs to start

The publicly advertised entry price, not the enterprise tier. Where a vendor does not publish pricing, the table says so rather than guessing.

  • Whether you're locked in

A quarterly or annual contract is the difference between trying something and committing to it. For a seasonal business it is a material cost, not a detail.

  • How much of the job it covers

A CRM handles the customer. A moving platform has to handle the customer, the inventory, the dispatch, the Bill of Lading and the payment — or the job gets typed in twice.

  • How long before a new hire is useful

Moving crews turn over, especially seasonally. Software a new mover cannot run in their first week is a permanent training cost.

Every platform in detail

  1. 1. Zip

Best for movers running 1–10 trucks

    Starts at
    $49/mo
    Contract
    None

Built specifically for small and mid-sized moving companies. Every feature is on every tier — quotes with AI photo inventory, CRM and automatic follow-ups, scheduling and dispatch, a digital Bill of Lading, and payments — and tiers differ only by how many jobs you complete a month. It is the only platform here that ships a mobile app for the owner as well as the crew, and there is no contract to sign.

Who it's for. Owner-operators and small companies who want the whole job — quote, schedule, dispatch, Bill of Lading, payment — in one place, without a contract or a training period.

    • Every feature on every tier; plans differ only by completed jobs per month
    • The only platform here with a mobile app built for the owner, not just the crew
    • Month to month, no per-user fees, no onboarding fee
    • Most companies are quoting and booking the same day they sign up

Not for. Companies past about ten trucks, anyone running warehousing and storage, and movers who need deep lead-source attribution or custom workflows. Zip is deliberately narrow, and that narrowness is a real cost once an operation gets big enough to need the depth.

  2. 2. QuoteIQ

    Best on price

    Starts at
    from $29.99/mo
    Contract
    None advertised

The cheapest entry point in the category, with instant online quoting, scheduling, dispatch and invoicing, and no per-user fees. It is a home-services platform that serves movers rather than a moving-only system, so the moving-specific parts — cubic-foot inventory, the Bill of Lading, storage — are thinner than on the tools built for this trade alone. If price is the binding constraint, start here.

Who it's for. Movers for whom the monthly cost is the deciding factor, and who are willing to trade moving-specific depth to get it.

    • The cheapest entry point in the category by some distance
    • Instant online quoting and a branded customer portal
    • No per-user fees

Not for. Companies that need moving-specific tooling. It is a home-services platform that serves movers rather than a moving-only system, so cubic-foot inventory, the Bill of Lading and storage are thinner than on the purpose-built tools.

  3. 3. Chariot

    Best for mid-sized movers

    Starts at
    $254/mo
    Contract
    Quarterly or yearly

The most modern-feeling of the bigger platforms and well liked by the movers who use it. Every feature is included, which is unusual at this end of the market. The starting price and the contract are what put it out of reach for most one- to three-truck operations.

Who it's for. Companies running roughly five to fifteen trucks who want modern software and can absorb the entry price and the contract.

    • The most modern-feeling of the larger platforms, and well liked by its users
    • Every feature included at every tier, which is unusual at this end of the market
    • Strong mobile experience for crews in the field

Not for. One- and two-truck operations. At $254 a month on a quarterly or yearly term it is roughly five times the entry price of the tools built for owner-operators, and the contract commits you before you know whether the crew will adopt it.

  4. 4. SmartMoving

    Best for established fleets

    Starts at
    $299/mo
    Contract
    Quarterly or annual

A powerful, mature platform with deep sales and lead-management tooling. It is genuinely good software — it is simply built and priced for companies well past the small-mover stage, and the depth that justifies the price at twenty trucks is overhead at three.

Who it's for. Movers past ten trucks with a dedicated sales function who need depth in lead management and reporting.

    • Mature, capable platform with years of development behind it
    • Deep sales and lead-source attribution
    • Strong reporting for multi-crew operations

Not for. Small movers. At $299 a month on a quarterly or annual contract, with configuration and training before go-live, the capability that justifies the price at twenty trucks is overhead at three.

  5. 5. Supermove

    Best for large, complex operations

    Starts at
    $176/mo per crew
    Contract
    Quarterly or annual

The most enterprise-flavoured option in the category, with strong operations tooling for multi-branch movers. Per-crew pricing means the cost scales with headcount rather than job volume, which suits a large operation and punishes a seasonal one.

Who it's for. Multi-branch movers, and companies doing long-distance or commercial work at volume.

    • The strongest operations tooling in the category
    • Handles multi-branch coordination and complex logistics properly
    • Active product development

Not for. Seasonal businesses. Per-crew pricing means the software bill peaks in summer when headcount does — which is exactly when margins are thinnest — and the feature depth assumes complexity a single-yard local mover does not have.

  6. 6. MoveitPro

Best for movers who also run storage

    Starts at
    from about $150/mo
    Contract
    Varies by plan

Strong on storage management and reporting, and a sensible choice for a company running warehousing alongside moving. Users consistently describe a longer learning curve than the lighter tools here.

Who it's for. Companies with warehousing alongside moving, where storage has to be modelled properly rather than tracked on a spreadsheet.

    • Genuine storage and warehouse management, which most tools here lack entirely
    • Detailed reporting
    • Long track record in the trade

Not for. Movers who do not run storage, and companies hiring seasonally. Users consistently describe a longer learning curve than the lighter tools, and that curve repeats with every new hire.

  7. 7. Movegistics

Best for estimating and virtual surveys

    Starts at
    from about $99/mo
    Contract
    Varies by plan

A long-standing residential moving CRM with a particular focus on estimating and virtual surveys. A reasonable fit if sales and quoting are the bottleneck and you are content to handle other parts of the operation elsewhere.

Who it's for. Movers whose bottleneck is sales and quoting rather than operations.

    • Particular strength in estimating and virtual surveys
    • Sales automation with email and text campaigns
    • Customer portal with live chat

Not for. Companies wanting one system for the whole job. It is strongest at the front of the funnel, which means dispatch and paperwork tend to live somewhere else.

  8. 8. MoverBase

Best for small teams wanting something simple

    Starts at
    Not publicly listed
    Contract
    Varies by plan

A long-standing, deliberately simple moving CRM for small companies — leads, quotes, dispatch and mobile apps, without much beyond that. Frequently named in round-ups of software for small movers. Pricing is not published openly, which means a call before you can compare it properly.

Who it's for. Very small operations that want lead, quote and dispatch handling without much beyond it.

    • Deliberately simple and long-established
    • Covers leads, quotes, dispatch and mobile
    • Frequently named in round-ups of software for small movers

Not for. Anyone who needs to compare pricing before booking a call — it is not published openly — or who wants the depth of the purpose-built platforms above.

When Zip is the wrong choice

This is our page, so it is worth being direct about the three cases where you should buy something else. If you run more than about ten trucks, Zip will start to feel thin and SmartMoving or Supermove have depth we have deliberately not built. If you run storage alongside moving, MoveitPro models warehousing and Zip does not — running your storage on a spreadsheet to save on software is a bad trade. And if the lowest possible monthly cost is the only thing that matters, QuoteIQ is cheaper than us and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Switching to save money and then finding the software cannot run your business is far more expensive than the subscription you were trying to avoid.

The full head-to-head detail is on the comparison pages, and if you are leaving a specific platform the alternatives shortlists go deeper on each one.

Buying questions

Choosing moving company software

What is the best moving company software for a small moving company?

For a company running 1 to 10 trucks, the deciding factors are usually the monthly cost, whether there is a contract, how fast a new hire can learn it, and whether it covers dispatch and the Bill of Lading rather than just the customer. Zip is built specifically for that size and starts at $49 a month with no contract. QuoteIQ is cheaper at around $29.99 a month but covers less of the moving job. SmartMoving, Supermove and Chariot are stronger once you are running dozens of trucks.

How much does moving company software cost?

Entry pricing across the category ranges from about $29.99 a month at the cheapest to $299 a month on the platforms aimed at established fleets, with most purpose-built moving tools sitting between $99 and $299. Zip is $49 a month at the entry tier and $349 at the top, priced by how many jobs you complete rather than how many people use it. The bigger cost difference is usually the contract: quarterly and annual terms mean the real commitment is three or twelve times the monthly figure. The full breakdown, with contract terms and fees, is in the software cost guide.

What is the cheapest moving company software?

QuoteIQ, at around $29.99 a month, is the cheapest option in this list — though it is a general home-services platform rather than moving-specific software. Among tools built only for movers, Zip is the cheapest at $49 a month with every feature included and no contract. Movegistics and MoversTech CRM both start from around $99 a month.

Do I need moving-specific software, or will a general CRM work?

A general CRM handles the lead and the customer, but it has no concept of a cubic-foot inventory, a Bill of Lading, a crew assignment or a truck. Movers who run on a generic CRM usually end up with a spreadsheet for dispatch and paper for the paperwork, which means the same move gets entered three times. Moving-specific software exists to keep it in one place.

Is there moving software with no contract?

Zip is month to month with no contract, no setup fee and no activation fee, and QuoteIQ does not advertise one either. Most other platforms in the category — SmartMoving, Supermove, Chariot — ask for a quarterly or annual commitment. For a seasonal business this matters more than the headline price, because it determines whether you can drop a tier or pause through a quiet winter.

What should I look for when choosing moving company software?

Four things, in this order: whether it covers the whole job from quote to payment or only part of it; what it really costs including any contract; how quickly a new hire can use it, because moving crews turn over seasonally; and whether you can try it on a real job before committing. A platform you cannot test on an actual move is one you are buying on a demo.

Can I switch moving software mid-season?

You can, but the slow season is when most companies do it and there is a good reason for that. Changing systems in July means learning new software during your busiest weeks; changing in January means the crew is fluent by the time volume returns. The constraint is usually your current contract rather than the software itself — check where you stand on a quarterly or annual term before you plan the move.

Try the one built for a company your size.

Every feature on every plan, from $49 a month, with no contract to sign and a real person to get you running — usually the same day you ask.
